Great States Junior is a board game for children ages 4-7. It is a fun tool to help children learn about the USA, while reinforcing other skills like beginning sounds and matching colors and shapes. It is an engaging way for little ones to become familiar with the geography of our country, the names of each state, as well as a famous landmark in each state. The game comes with four pawns, but it is easy to add extra players; just borrow some pawns from another game. (In our picture you can see the board is set with six players.) Our family is more interested in learning than competition, so we’ve modified the rules and removed the wind-up timer. Overall, this is an excellent way for children to begin learning about their country.
Gretchen Thinks: “This game is fun because I like trying to remember which states start with the same letter.” (Age 6)
Walter Says: “I like this game. It is fun because you can learn things about the states. I really like how you can learn where to find each state on the map. Now I can see just how far away my cousin in Colorado is! This game is good for kids that do not know their states or colors yet.” (Age 7)
Daddy Declares: “I enjoy playing this game with my children. It’s a refresher for me, as it’s been almost thirty years since I was taught the geography of the states. It is also a meaningful way to spend time with my children.”
