During the month of October, 2013, Read Aloud 15 Minutes is running a National Campaign Pulse titled, “Let’s Talk”. The goal of the campaign is to get the word out about the importance of reading out loud to the children in your life. How can we spread the message? By talking about the significance this activity has in the life of a child.
The small child in your life is growing bigger right before your eyes, it seems. Let’s not forget, that as their body is growing, so is their mind. Just as we need to nourish their physical body with healthy, well rounded meals, we also need to feed their intellect with healthy, well rounded information. Without food a body will quickly show symptoms of deficiency and similarly, without positive stimulation, brainpower declines. A strong, healthy intelligence begins early on and can be nurtured easily by the adults surrounding the young child.
How can we encourage healthy brain development in babies and little children? There are many different answers to this question but today we want to focus on the impact reading to children has on their progress. Here is a wonderful infographic provided by ReadAloud.org. This diagram is packed full of good reasons why we need to work together to help everyone learn the importance of spending even 15 minutes a day reading to the children in their lives. Take a look:
