Author Vanessa Roam has partnered with Read Aloud 15 MINUTES to help spread the word about the importance of reading to children from birth to 8 years old and beyond. As a mother who began reading to her children in utero and later wrote stories to read with them, this is an easy message for Vanessa to share.
And share we did... We displayed the Read Aloud 15 MINUTES Every Child. Every Parent. Every Day. logo and handed out Read Aloud's letter to parents during our "A Remnant Surprise Party" children's event at a local upstate NY public library. We did the same thing during our first book signing for "Tippy Tip" at the Green Toad Bookstore in Oneonta, NY. We shared Read Aloud 15 MINUTES campaign messages on Facebook and Twitter. When Vanessa Roam was interviewed on WKTV's 5 o'clock news, she provided them with the "March is Read Aloud Month" caterpillar graphic which they displayed during the newstalk. We sent out letters to over 100 public libraries in the central NY area telling them about the Read Aloud campaign and asking them to consider becoming a partner. We also gladly added the "We Support Read Aloud 15 MINUTES" badge to our website and blog.
We feel we made a positive contribution to Read Aloud 15 MINUTES March 2014 National Campaign and we are very happy to be a part of encouraging families and other child caregivers to read out loud with children everyday. We're already brainstorming for the summer campaign!
